What's New At Cat Rags
Most Recent First
- To speed things up the banners from banner programs
were removed from all pages. They were hucked on one new advertisement
page for people who just can't get enough of them.
- Beginning this week, each time we publish an issue
we create a corresponding image. An example is in the top right corner of this screen.
These are for web sites that would like a small cat image on their page that's
automatically updated each Tuesday. Sites may select the size and style that they want
from the banners page.
- Reworked the entire site with new more efficient
graphics. This included a new background and all new embossed buttons. Moved the menu to
the left side of the screen. The back issues were moved to the right with an abbreviated
title next to the thumbnail.
- During the site overhaul "rate this week's
issue" was removed from all issues. Here are the results during this 24 day trial.
Yippie-18, Cool-16, OK-7, Boo-8. We thank everyone who participated.
- Each newsletter issue now has only one banner
program image, and it's at the bottom of the screen. We thank the visitors who suggested
this. The customer is always right.
- Installed a guestbook
program by Lpage.
- Fortunately we test banner exchange programs on our
local server before uploading the web pages to our ISP. We learned that if they don't ask
what type of content you'll allow, it will very likely be pretty rough stuff. Duh! We
thought that the "prominent" programs did a hard sell attempting to get us to
accept the middle of the road PG13 rating. However, we were not willing to display these
banners either. If you notice a banner that you feel is inappropriate for this site,
please send us an Email with the name of
the banner program, and if possible attach the GIF file. Thank you.
- Added banners from banner exchange programs that
have G rated policies to the "bottom" of web pages. This should help to get the
word out and increase the traffic to this web site. We very much encourage feedback about this decision from our valued visitors.
- Web sites that would like to add cat humor to their
pages can now insert the Cat Rags headline. Their web pages will then automatically
display the latest headline each Tuesday when we publish the issue. A one time change to a
web page is all that is necessary since the headline graphic loads from our server and is
updated each Tuesday when we publish. Click here for
details.
- We are now soliciting feedback from our Web TV
visitors on how well Cat Rags web pages display on their equipment. Click here for details.
- Removed the intro screen which had a 2 second pause
on it. Every second counts -- especially for our type A visitors. Now linking to
www.catrags.com will take you "directly" to the latest issue of the newsletter.
- This day was a milestone in the history of Cat Rags.
We were honored to receive our first award from Madam
Alto's Cat House. The award wasn't for the
web site, but something even more important. You see, we scored a purrfect 10 on a cat
test and won her coveted Trivia Award
which was promptly placed on an awards page.
- Placed a small "rate this week's issue"
section on each newsletter. This is the closest we can get to an applause/booo meter since
we don't have a live audience. Visitors can now tell us what they think about each
individual issue while they're looking at it..
- Added a new bookmark button. It links to a page at the Infoseek search engine which contains
very comprehensive instructions on how install a bookmark on most browsers used on the web
today.
- The list of links to other cat sites is growing.
Since we strive to make each page load in less than 1 minute on a 28.8 modem, something
needed to be done. It was with regret that 14 web site banners were removed. The "cat
links" and "add a link" pages were merged making it simpler for web sites
to submit their site for inclusion on the Cat Links Page.
- Thumbnail pictures of previous issues and short
headlines are now on the left column of the screen. Clicking on these takes you directly
to the issue. Also, you can "jump backwards" from issue to issue to the
beginning of time. The navigation bar for the newsletter has been moved to the right side
with new small graphic buttons.
- Developed 14 weekly issues of Cat Rags for future
publication during a 9 day sabbatical. We hope you'll like what we created. Back issues
are online in case you miss a week. Cats, computers, camper trailer, & people
converged at Copalis Beach, WA USA. After 5 PM we flew kites, walked in the surf, &
reflected deeply on corn & sheep.
- Reworked and improved each "picture". Also
added a small trademark & copyright notice at the bottom. Common practice for comic
strips, and similar to the "AP Wire Photo" notice below pictures in newspapers.
- Added new EXTRA option to the
menu for late breaking developments.
- Added a Rated G page as a home
for banners from sites that screen Internet content. These organizations have the respect
and moral support of Cat Rags.
- Added a Help option to
navigation menu. This site "should" be intuitive enough without help, so this
may be removed in the future.
- Moved navigation bar for the "newsletter"
to the left side of the screen; a convention which is quite common on the Internet. The
navigation bar for other pages & forms remains on the top. (Later moved to the right
side).
- Added Best Viewed With page
indicating support for WebTV, AOL 3.x, Netscape Navigator 2.x or later, and Microsoft
Internet Explorer 2.x or later.
- Added web site submission form. Web site
administrators can easily enter information about their cat oriented web site and it will
be added to the links page. A request can also be made to remove a link in case we missed
something. (This page was later merged with the Cat Links Page).
- Added a "linkback" page with various sized
banners. Web sites that choose to link back to Cat Rags are encouraged to place one of
these next to the link. (This page was later renamed to Banners,
which still includes these banners).
- PICS Internet self-rating system implemented. See Press Releases for more information.
- Introduced our first newsletter to the world wide web. Added Press Releases,
Links to other cat oriented web sites, FAQ, Feedback form, Survey form, and Terms and Conditions page.
- Established presence on the world wide web.
