Cat
Rags County. It seemed hopeless for a group of stranded campers surrounded by a
forest fire on Mt. Cat Rags. George's friends warned him that a parachute rescue was
suicide. But he felt he was their only chance, since he knew the area better than anyone.
For this was his kittenhood playground. The wind was blowing so hard that he had to jump
from the airplane two counties East. Reaching the campers seconds before the area was
engulfed in flames, he led them to the safe confines of his old clubhouse cave. Later, he
guided them down the charred mountain to a cheering crow. When the community replanted the
forest, they erected a statue of George in front of the cave to honor his heroism.
